The Mount is a select development consisting on 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes set in a rural part of Canterbury.

The Mount comprises a self contained collection of late victorian and new buildings, predominantly grouped around a courtyard, set within mature landscaped grounds.  The Mount was originally built in 1897 and was designed by A.H. Campbell the city surveyor for Canterbury City Council.

The site was acquired in 1948 by the National Health Service and operated as The Mount Hospital.  Latterly the buildings were further converted and used by Christchurch University College for post graduate studies and student accommodation.  The grouping of the buildings around the courtyard and the general landscape setting if of primary importance and the site was designated a conservation area by Canterbury City Council in February 1990.

Planning permission was granted by Canterbury City Council in 2007 to covert the various Victorian buildings of interest and quality to residential dwellings, and to provide a number of new build dwellings around the existing to compliment the architecture and setting of the site.

Monro Homes have put considerable effort into the design and detailing of these new dwellings to complement the high quality setting of The Mount and generally to enhance, the local environment and to preserve, where possible, the Victorian buildings and their respective details.  The result is probably one of the most important small residential developments, to make a substantial contribution to the fabric of the City of Canterbury.

Monro Homes has taken its responsibility for developing this site very seriously.  Working with the conservation officer of Canterbury City Council, Monro Homes has, by extensive use of traditional materials and detailing, been able to procure these superbly designed family dwellings.
